IS NOW THE NEED CHALLENGE: Limited space to support all ages and abilities Whether you are young or old, the Y is the place to go to improve your health, learn something new, and connect with others. Our current space does not meet the evolving needs of our increasingly diverse community. Aside from limited physical activity space and lack of handicapped accessibility, our aging and crowded building inhibits our capacity to implement much-needed programs for creative and non-competitive pursuits and healthy connections for young people. YMCA RESPONSE Our renovated Y will position programs for health and wellness, continued education, and social outreach in a positive environment where people can grow in mind, body and spirit to their full potential at every age. It will be a place for all generations, from youth to seniors, to have the best space, programs, and resources to come together and connect in their shared pursuit of finding health and purpose at the Y and beyond. The new space will provide strategically designed group exercise studios and multi- purpose rooms that will allow us to offer new and creative programs to meet the changing needs of each generation and tap into the unmet needs of our community. COMMUNITY IMPACT At the renovated Y, healthy generations will connect and be a force for better health and wellness that radiates across the Shoreline. CHALLENGE: Barriers to access People with diverse abilities and physical challenges struggle to navigate our current building. The physical spaces are not responsive to the broad range of physical, cultural and social backgrounds in our community. YMCA RESPONSE Everyone is valued at the Y. At the renovated, intentionally designed facility, everyone will feel welcome. The space will include an elevator, wider doorways, and a Wellness Center on the main floor, as part of a safer, more inclusive design. COMMUNITY IMPACT At the renovated Y, our inclusive community will have appropriate spaces to connect people to each other and provide a stronger network of support across our community. 2010 1992 1976 2008 1982 2002 2013 First Golf Classic The annual event has raised over 1 million dollars in 25 years New Wellness Center & Fitness Studios Made possible by the Brady Family Foundation VS-Y Expands Campaign adds a gym, racquetball courts & childcare “Initiative 2000” adds a second pool 25-yard pool made possible by the support of the Lee family HEALTHY LIVING SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY of our senior members are part of the Silver Sneakers program, a partnership with Medicare plans that allows them free access to our YMCA and all programs. of the leading causes of death are from chronic diseases, accounting for 86% of health care costs. in financial aid was provided to families and individuals in 2017 so they could participate in our life- changing programs and services. cancer survivors and people living with Parkinson’s reclaimed their health thanks to our Hope is Power and Delay the Disease programs. members of all ages and abilities participate in a range of group exercise programs that suit their physical needs, connect them to others, and motivate them to lead healthier lives. individuals and families helped us help the community this year with their financial support. households in the town of Westbrook earn less than the cost of living.
